It’s not often you see lightning this close up…which likely explains why the camera operator sorta lost his bearings very quickly. He reports that the tree died within a few months after the strike.

Photographer Cathy Gregg photographed a lightning storm in Santa Maria, CA from inside her car for nearly 3 hours. I didn’t think it would be as good as it was, because the video was comprised of slides…but you actually get to see the texture of the lightning when it holds still like that. Beautiful stuff.
