I’ve just discovered this instrument today. It’s related to the steel drum, but it’s a delightful, gentle blending of rhythm and music. You might like this as well.

You’ve probably never seen this footage before. This was personal camcorder footage from someone who lived near the World Trade Center, and was only recently released to the public. There are very few edits…it’s mostly just a half hour of really high-quality footage of the events of that day, along with the unguarded comments of [...]

Before the Silver Surfer rose, a German film company had the rights to make a Fantastic 4 movie. They were about to expire, so they had to get something made in order hold onto the copyrights. Its existence had been denied…yet here it is, in all its glory. Awful in the extreme!

An Antworks farm was laid on its side for a bit, then set upright again. Two ants who had gone exploring had ended up “smooshed” against the side wall…in effect, glued to the side by the pressure of the agar. But others in the colony sent out a rescue party…digging down the side in an [...]

Øystein Baadsvik with the Stavanger Brass Band. Live performance of the world premiere of Fnugg Blue ,from the Gala Concert of the European Brass Band Championship (May 2003). Incredibly creative tuba playing, adding in some very creative mouth techniques, plus singing while playing…it borders on beatboxing at times. More about Øystein at baadsvik.com.

A huge configuration of mirrors and a tower combine to capture the energy of the sun in Spain. But unlike electrical energy, which cannot be stored for later use, this setup produces steam energy, so its use can be delayed or shifted to a point of need. Very interesting.
